Meet 7 Animals Who Will Never Be Disney Characters

My son Caleb felt like we had been leaning a bit too much towards the girl here lately and told me that we needed to bring in some more boy topics!

He and I discussed what we could do and together we created this post. It really isn't just for boys and we think you will find out some pretty awesome things about the world we live in.

Prepare to be amazed!

Meet the Tardigrades, most commonly known as a Water Bear

Water Bear Facts

  • These microscopic creatures are everywhere from the highest mountains to the deepest oceans.
    • They usually live in moss and can survive in the most extreme environments and  hack temperatures as low as -457 degrees and heat as high as 357 degrees.
      • The Water Bear could even survive a nuclear explosion! Radiation is commonly measured in grays and a Water Bear could survive up to 5,700 grays. Humans would be dead after only 10 to 20 grays.
        • Decades without water are nothing for this little guy. He could even survive in space!

Ever met a carnivorous mouse that eats meat and howls like a wolf? Well, say hello to the Grasshopper Mouse!

Think the term Dumbo only applies to elephants? Think again. Meet the Dumbo Octopus.

          Dumbo Octopus Facts
          • Lives at extreme ocean depths of 9800 to 1300 feet.
          • Is only about 8 inches tall.
          • Hovers just above the ocean floor looking for worms and snails to eat.

Now here is a deer that could take on the Cullen Family!
           The Vampire Deer/Musk Deer.

The Musk Deer hails from Southern Asia, primarily the Himalayas and is harmless. Well, at least we think they are. To date there is no evidence that they have ever bitten a human and turned them into the undead or that they themselves ARE members of the undead. Maybe they are just very, very good at what they do. Or we are very, very dumb and cannot see their sinister plan.

The Pacu Fish is a cousin to the piranha and uses it almost human like teeth to crack nuts and fruits.

Sorry, but this fish just freaks me out.

          Moving on.......

This animal officially is named the Amblypygi, but all I see is a freaking scary spider that has claws.

Luckily, they usually live in dark caves and I shouldn't  find one scurrying across my kitchen floor anytime soon.

Last, but not least this is an Aye-aye.

I think it is kind of cute.

Aye-ayes are from Madagascar and are nearly extinct because for so long they were considered a bad omen and killed on sight.

They enjoy grooming and sitting and meditating for up to 2 hours.

Now aren't you glad you stopped by today?

Our world is full of amazing things and even more amazing animals that occupy it! Thanks Caleb for helping me learn some pretty cool stuff today.

Wow, the facts about the Water Bear are pretty fascinating. I'd be very frightened to look through a microscope and see one of them crawling around, though. Eeek!

They are fascinating! My son now has on his wish list a microscope so that he can start studying the little guys.
I think the water bear and dumbo octopus are cute... is it just me? lol

See and I thought the poor little Aye-aye was cute too, not at all a bad omen that needed to be killed on sight!
Boy howdy. These are pretty scary. Perhaps they could be the villain in a movie.

          Have a fabulous day. ☺
Ew- spider with crazy claws that resemble a venus fly trap! EW. Gross gross gross. The water bear is so cute! If it were bigger I would tickle its belly like the Pillsbury dough boy. I don't like the teethy fish either, too close to home. Caleb reads your blog? Uhm, coolest son ever alert.

Thanks. Caleb is a pretty cool guy. I am torn on whether the spider or the fish freaks me out more. Just glad I probably won't be meeting up with either of them anytime soon.
Uh thanks. That Pacu Fish? Yeah. I'm gonna have nightmares. But the water bear is pretty cool, I think. It looks like a sci-fi creature! And I thing the Aye-Aye is cute, too!

Sorry, that fish is def. the stuff nightmares are made of.
Yikes! I think I'll stick to cats! Your son had a great idea for a blog post! I love it!

Oh, but the fanged deer would be such a lovely house pet...
My boys will love checking out these scary creatures!

But that fish with man teeth? That's too freaky for me. Tootsie will NOT be seeing these. :)

My son and I were watching a clip on youtube about the fish when we were writing the post. Supposedly, several locals where the fish lives have had pretty bad run ins with it. It is mainly a vegetarian, but will chomp on whatever is in it's way. Yikes for sure!!
I keep laughing at this post because I'm trying to imagine trying to make characters out of these creatures. trying to make a pacu fish cute? hahahaha. I mean I'm sure they can because they are imaginative people - more so than i could be, but it's just too hilarious to me. :-)

I think they might be able to do something with the water bear, but I think the others are definitely out!!
I have to save this one and share it with MY Caleb and Joshua too. They LOVE weird animals!!!

Thanks for sharing with #smallvictoriessunday and I gotta admit, I'm glad these won't be Disney characters anytime soon either. I gotta agree with you, the fish with human teeth freaks me out too!
